Taika Waititi, one of the directors of The Mandalorian, has cast doubt on the sex of Baby Yoda.
Disney+’s The Mandalorian has reached huge success for multiple reasons but one of the biggest is certainly because of Baby Yoda, the loveable puppet creature that the Mando protects throughout the show.
Up until now, it has been assumed that the character is male but director Taika Waititi has jokingly teased that this might not be the case! Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the director said:
“I knew that people would be talking about Baby Yoda, but I also know Baby Yoda’s real name. So if you’re gonna do me a favor, please stop calling him ‘Baby Yoda.’ Or is it a her? No one knows!”

While Waititi might just be joking around, we are still waiting on many concrete details about the mysterious little force user. Fortunately, season 2 sounds like it is going to explore the origins of this character so answers may be forthcoming.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The series depicts a lone bounty hunter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leads the cast of The Mandalorian, alongside the likes of Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
