The upcoming Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels has credited Marvel veterans Elissa Karasik (Loki) and Zeb Wells (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law) as writers on the film’s script.
The duo are credited alongside The Marvels director Nia DaCosta and screenwriter Megan McDonnell. Karasik wrote the entirety of the Disney+ series Loki while Wells wrote just one episode of She-Hulk, but is also the current writer on Marvel Comics’ flagship title The Amazing Spider-Man after taking over in April 2022.
The sequel will see Brie Larson reprise her role as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel as she teams up with Ms. Marvel‘s Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan and WandaVision‘s Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, reuniting with her decades after we last saw them in the 1990s-set Captain Marvel where the character was played by Akira Akbar.
Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as ‘The Marvels.’
The Marvels is directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman) and features a cast that includes Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Zawe Ashton as a mystery villain and Park Seo-Joon (Parasite) in another mystery role.
The Marvels is set for release on July 28th 2023.
