Have you ever wondered why so many people are attracted to horror movies? Why the genre that once was looked down upon by critics keeps slews of viewers glued to their screens? Scientists argue it’s a lack of adrenaline that makes people watch the vampires sucking blood out of their innocent victims and maniacs chasing down their prey. Experts note that living in socially advanced countries may feel boring and too predictable, which makes us seek out complex and intense experiences. And by watching horrors or thrillers, viewers get the fix of adrenaline we crave so much. Be it sensation-seeking or any other reason, lots of horror film fans are now rubbing their hands together in anticipation of the upcoming scary movies to hit Netflix in 2021. Below is the list of the most anticipated horror films to hit the streaming platform in the near future.
There’s Someone Inside Your House
There’s Someone Inside Your House is slated to hit Netflix in February 2021. And Netflix’s take on Stephanie Perkins’ novel, which garnered broadly positive critical reviews, promises to surprise all fans of quality slashers.
There’s Someone Inside Your House sounds like a classic plot for a horror movie. There are going to be mysteries to be unravelled by someone disturbed and grappling with their inner demons. You will find yourself immersed into the macabre atmosphere of a small provincial town harboring dark secrets of the young students. Though it makes no claim to be a horror masterpiece, it will surely surprise you with unexpected plot twists, heart pounding murder scenes, and remind you once again how fragile we are.
Things Heard & Seen
Another horror film that deserves to be mentioned on this list is Things Heard and Seen. This movie has also been adapted from a novel and has a lot of promise to true connoisseurs of the horror genre. It is arriving on Netflix in April 2021.
Getting along with neighbors can be tricky, and no one knows this better than the Clares, a couple who relocate to a new town only to confront hostility and a sinister darkness that is part of their new home’s history. Don’t expect tons of gore from this movie. Its pace and unhurried narrative, suspense, and spooky undertones are going to give you the creeps, though.
Army of the Dead
If you’re a fan of zombie movies, then you’ll certainly want to catch Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead when it releases on Netflix this summer.
Following a zombie outbreak that has decimated Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble as they venture into the quarantined Sin City to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted. The film marks Snyder’s return to the zombie genre following 2004’s Dawn of the Dead remake, and promises plenty of action when the team of mercenaries clash with the hordes of zombies inhabiting America’s Playground.
O2
The highly intense survival thriller O2 is coming to Netflix. The company hasn’t announced any specific release date as yet, but it’s rumoured to hit the platform in mid-summer or early fall.
O2 follows a young woman who wakes up to find herself trapped in a cryo unit. Totally disoriented and amnesiac, the main character struggles to figure out how to get out of the predicament. With oxygen levels starting to drop, the woman is running out of time and the only chance to escape from the deadly chamber is to recall what exactly led her there.
No One Gets Out Alive
No One Gets Out Alive is a haunted-house movie that also happens to feature a trapped character. It focuses on Stephanie, a young immigrant girl relocating to the US in pursuit of her American Dream. She rejoices at the opportunity to rent a small room at a low price in the boarding house, but her optimism soon gives way to despair and blood-curdling fear. Every night she spends in the new place seems like her last one, as something truly malicious and devious grows more intense and threatens her life. The movie will premiere on Netflix during the latter half of 2021.
