Was Rob Zombie’s take on The Munsters too family-friendly for you? Well, Universal wants to correct that with a new “dark reimagining” of the iconic series.
Deadline reports Universal Studio Group’s UCP is developing 1313, now described “as a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse.” The Munsters are officially going dark and spooky.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines’ Lindsey Anderson Beer will showrun 1313. Per Deadline, ” James Wan, Beer, and Ingrid Bisu are developing the series with UCP. Atomic Monster and LAB Brew are the production companies. We previously spoke to Lindsey Anderson Beer, which you can find here.
Where does the name come from? In the original series, The Munsters resided at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. This isn’t the first series reboot planned for The Munsters; as you may recall, we almost had one written by Bryan Fuller. All that came from this attempt was a big-budget pilot titled Mockingbird Lane.
The original series starred Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster, Yvonne De Carlo as his wife Lily, Al Lewis as Grandpa, Beverley Owen (later replaced by Pat Priest) as their niece Marilyn, and Butch Patrick as the son Eddie.
