The Babadook and The Nightingale director Jennifer Kent is teaming with Amazon Studios for an adaptation of Alexis Coe’s non-fiction book Alice + Freda Forever.
Taking place in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1890s, the thriller will tell the story of Alice Mitchell and Freda Ward, two teenage girls who fell in love, only for jealousy and outside forces to turn their romance into an unstable obsession that led to “a very unnatural crime” – one that captivated the nation.
Amazon is eyeing a summer 2020 production start for Alice + Freda Forever, with Greg Berlanti, Sidney Kimmel, Sarah Schechter and John Penotti serving as producers.
