Having departed the long-gestating comic book adaptation The Crow earlier this year, The Nun director Corin Hardy has now signed on for his next project, with Deadline reporting that he will helm Cinemax and Sky Atlantic’s Gangs of London.
The drama series is based on an idea from The Raid director Gareth Evans and cinematographer Matt Flannery; while specific plot details are being kept under wraps, it has been revealed that it will take place in contemporary London, with the city being torn apart by a power struggle between rival criminal organisations after the head of one gang is assassinated, leaving a power vacuum.
“I couldn’t be happier than to be collaborating with Corin on this show,” said Evans. “Having been a huge fan of his for some time, Corin’s genre sensibilities and ambitious scope perfectly compliment the cinematic landscape we strive to achieve for Gangs of London.”
Hardy is coming off the back of a big box office success with The Nun, which has become the highest-grossing chapter of The Conjuring Universe horror franchise.
