Rob Reiner’s cult classic The Princess Bride looks set to be adapted for the stage by Disney Theatrical Productions. There is no word as to whether it will be a musical or a play but who wouldn’t want to see someone sing “My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” Variety report that Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn was behind the deal.
Disney has an impressive track record with stage adaptations of “classic” films, with Shakespeare in Love, Dumbo, Freaky Friday and Alice in Wonderland all currently in development and Aladdin previewing in Toronto, Canada before opening on Broadway in spring of 2014. Any opportunity to see Mandy Patinkin, Andre the Giant and Wallace Shawn’s characters reunite – be it a remake, a stage play or a sequel – would be a treat.
