It looks like the end is in sight for The Purge franchise… until the inevitable reboot, anyway.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, The Purge creator James DeMonaco has revealed that he has one more film in mind which will serve as a conclusion to the popular horror-thriller series.
“I have it in my head,” said DeMonaco. “I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.”
The Purge launched in 2013 and tells of an annual 12-hour window when all crime, including murder, is legal within the United States. The first four movies have grossed almost $450 million at the global box office, while the franchise also spawned a recent tie-in TV series. DeMonaco has written all four films, and also directed the first three.
