Having juggled directing duties on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 with producing a number of film and TV projects through their AGBO production company, Anthony and Joe Russo have now set their next directorial effort in the PTSD drama Cherry.
Cherry is based on the “novel” by Nico Walker, which parallels the author’s true life story as a former Army medic who returned from a tour in Iraq suffering undiagnosed PTSD. Becoming addicted to drugs, Walker started robbing banks, and was eventually caught in 2011.
AGBO acquired the rights to the book ahead of competition from a rival bid at Warner Bros. which would have seen James Franco (The Disaster Artist) directing, as well as an offer from Sony. Jessica Goldberg (The Path) has signed on to write the script.
The Russos are currently working on post-production on the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4, which is set to arrive in May 2019, bringing the curtain down on Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
