The Russos say Avengers 4 ending will be another “big game changer”

May 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War follow…

Next year’s Avengers 4 is set to be a landmark moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having been described as both the end of one era of the MCU and the beginning of another. And, sure enough, Avengers: Infinity War co-director Joe Russo has promised that fans can expect another “big game changer” at the end of the as-yet-untitled sequel.

“Obviously Thanos is a very formidable villain and to beat Thanos will come at a very high cost,” Russo told Sway’s Universe. “We’re committed to stakes, we believe in stakes, and we like to shake up the Marvel Universe. We had a big game-changer at the end of Winter Soldier, had a big game-changer at the end of Civil War, a big game-changer at the end of Infinity War. Obviously, there will be a big game changer at the end of Avengers 4.”

As Russo mentions, the ending of Captain America: The Winter Soldier saw the dissolution of S.H.I.E.L.D., the ending of Captain America: Civil War saw the dissolution of The Avengers, and the ending of Avengers: Infinity War saw the literal dissolution of half of all life in the universe. Quite how the Russos plan to top that with Avengers 4 remains to be seen, but past form suggest that it will have some enormous ramifications for the MCU going forward.
