The Sense8 special has begun production

September 27, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The Sense8 finale special has officially started production.

The Netflix sci-fi series was cancelled by the streaming service back in June with Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos attributing high costs and low viewership as the cause.

The costs for the series were always going to mount up considering the worldwide scope of the series — being filmed in 16 cities and 13 countries during its first 23 episodes, at a reported cost of $9 million per instalment. So Sense8’s cancellation wasn’t a huge surprise given its low ratings.

After the show’s demise fans created campaigns to save the series. An agreement was made to not bring it back from the dead but to release a two hour special instalment in order to wrap things up.

We now know that production for the special is underway thanks to an instagram post by one of the Sense8’s stars Miguel Angel Silvestre.

The actor wrote “llá vamos! There we go!” next to a photo of the special’s script.

The two hour finale for Sense8 will be released in 2018 on Netflix.
