Disney+ has enlisted Kat Coiro to direct the first two episodes of the upcoming new live-action TV series adaptation of Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black’s fantasy book series The Spiderwick Chronicles.
Coiro is coming off the Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson rom-com Marry Me and has directed and executive produced six episodes of the upcoming Marvel Studios series She-Hulk. Her past television directing credits include Dead to Me, Shameless, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Mozart in the Jungle.
The Spiderwick Chronicles follows “the Grace Family — twin brothers Jared and Simon, their sister Mallory and mother Helen — as they move into their dilapidated ancestral home and begin to unravel a dark mystery about their great-great Uncle who once discovered the secret and maybe foreboding faerie world existing parallel to their own.”
Disney+ has described the series as a “modern coming-of-age story combined with fantasy adventure.” Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television will produce with Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key) will serve as showrunner and executive producing alongside Coiro, authors Black and DiTerlizzi, and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, and Julie Kane-Ritsch.
