Prepare to revisit the compelling work of Stephenie Meyer once again, as Twilight mania will return.
News broke from The Hollywood Reporter that Lionsgate is in the very early development of a television series based on The Twilight Saga.
Per THR, The new Lionsgate Television project based on the wildly successful books and later films “does not yet have a network/platform,” as the studio heads into pre-production before shopping it around. Rumors have swirled that Lionsgate would revisit the Twilight IP as it proved insanely successful the first time, with the five films grossing more than $3.4 billion worldwide.
The Hollywood Reporter does note that Stephenie Meyer is involved in the development of the series, as are executive producers Wyck Godfrey and former Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig. These figures were vital to making the Twilight Saga films a global success, and they’ll look to recapture that magic on the small screen.
Creatively, Sinead Daly is reportedly attached to write the script for Twilight TV. THR notes, “Daly is working with Lionsgate TV to determine the specific take on Twilight and whether it will be a remake of Meyer’s books or a different offshoot.”
The series’ direction will be critical to making things work, and fans online are split if they want a spin-off or a retelling of the novels.
Lionsgate has declined to comment on the story.
