The number of piracy downloads for the season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead has dipped 42% from last year.
We already know that the debut episode of this new season was the lowest viewed premiere for the AMC zombie show since season 3, indicating a growing level of apathy towards the series.
And now another metric has revealed some interesting numbers pertaining to the show’s popularity. Piracy isn’t exactly an area that a TV series wants to succeed in, after all, they would rather folks tune in to the correct station and watch legally. But the number of downloads a programme has does indicate a level of popularity.
Taking this into account, the notion that The Walking Dead isn’t as popular as it once was is given even more credence as the show’s piracy downloads were down 42% compared to last season’s opener.
This news comes from piracy-tracking firm Tecxipio (via Variety), stating that the series was downloaded by 774,685 users worldwide, compared with 1.33 million last season.
