…Having skipped Comic-Con last year, it looks like Marvel will be returning to San Diego next month, with both Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s James Gunn hinting on Twitter that Marvel will have a presence in Hall H this year. Hopefully we’ll get official confirmation of Marvel’s plans soon. Meanwhile, the first images of Doctor Strange merchandise have started making their way online, including a LEGO set of the Sanctum Sanctorum…
…Cameras are set to start rolling on Thor: Ragnarok next month, and MCU newcomers Jeff Goldblum has been speaking about his role as The Grandmaster [read his comments here], while both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston shared a few thoughts on the God of Thunder’s third solo outing, with Hiddleston also teasing a rematch between Loki and The Hulk: “It’s no secret that the Hulk shows up in Ragnarok, and the last time Loki and Hulk were in the same room didn’t go very well for Loki so he’s got a few chips on his shoulder.” You can read what else the pair had to say here…
…With production also set to get underway next month, Spider-Man: Homecoming has made two new additions to its cast, with young actor Michael Barbieri (Little Men) set for an as-yet-unrevealed role and Kenneth Choi (The People v. O.J. Simpson) portraying the principal of Midtown High School. Choi has already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing he Howling Commando Jim Morita in Captain America: The First Avenger, which makes him one of only a handful of actors to have multiple roles in the MCU…
…The Avengers composer Alan Silvestri has announced that he’s returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to score both parts of Avengers: Infinity War, while Josh Brolin shared his excitement about the upcoming Marvel epic, saying he was “blown away” by the story: “I sat at a table and I listened to the story from beginning to end, which was … you know, sometimes you go around and you go, ‘Oh, it’s a great movie. Or this is a great experience,’ and you kind of know that it’s not… Basically, my character against everybody. And it’s really fun what they’ve chosen to do with the story. I think it’s brilliant, personally. I was blown away, and had goose pimples pretty much 50% of the time that I was listening to what was going on, and pretty amazed that I’m going to be involved in it…”
…Michael B. Jordan has confirmed that he’s joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he reunites with his Fruitvale Station and Creed director Ryan Coogler for Black Panther, and in doing so he also seemingly confirmed Lupita Nyong’o’s casting too: “I’m super excited, especially to put a different spin on it,” Jordan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m looking forward to working with Ryan Coogler once again. It’s gonna be a good time. I can’t wait to work with Lupita Nyong’o and Chadwick Boseman..”
…A few weeks back Sharon Stone revealed that she’s set for a role in an upcoming Marvel movie, and this week the Basic Instinct star offered a brief tease as to who she’s playing, stating that her character has “heat powers”…
…During an appearance at Dallas Comic Con Fan Expo, Hayley Atwell shared a few comments on how Peggy Carter would feel about the kiss between Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy’s niece Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) in Captain America: Civil War, joking that: “Well, first of all she’d be turning over in her grave. She’d be like ‘no.’ And she’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She’d break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s ass as well. I just feel that, you know – I wouldn’t want to date my great aunt’s guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, ‘don’t touch that.” You can’t tap that! She’d want the best for her and she’d want her dating a good guy. And now with this whole ‘Hail Hydra” business, I don’t know if Steve’s good enough for her. So on all levels, it’s just a big fat no…”
…It’s been over three years and an entire Phase since the Mandarin twist, but Shane Black can’t seem to do a promotional interview without being asked about the controversial creative decision in Iron Man 3. “We may have done our job a bit too well in a way because we succeeded in actually having a surprise in the middle of a big summer movie where you normally know virtually everything about it before you go in” states the director. “And when I say we did our job too well it meant some of the fans felt fooled. They felt I think that they’d been led down one path and then sold a bill of goods. It’s hard. Because I want to please the fans… but in this case I thought and we all thought that it was just a very interesting and very layered decision to take the Mandarin.” Black went on to explain why they went down the route they did, and stated that he’d go down the same path if he was given the opportunity to do it again; read his comments in full here…
