After being pushed back on numerous occasions, the horror film Amityville: The Awakening finally made its way into U.S. theaters on Saturday, marking The Weinstein Company’s first release since the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal broke.
The film, which has sat on the shelf since 2015 and was released for free on Google Play earlier this month, grossed a paltry $742 from 10 locations, putting it 59th in the weekend box office ranking with a per-screen-average of just $74, one of the lowest ever recorded. For comparison, Jigsaw opened with a per-screen-average of $5,525, while The Square managed $38,000 per screen from its two locations.
