In the latest episode of The Writer Experience Podcast, Court and Harry are joined by writer-director John Patton Ford, who discusses how to break into the film industry in 2019.
Born and raised in South Carolina, John Patton Ford worked as a television editor before earning an MFA from the American Film Institute. His thesis film Patrol premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and made the short list for the 2011 Academy Awards. Since then, he’s directed commercials for brands like Toyota, Audi, Pepsi, and Tide, while developing feature projects.
In 2014, his music video for Hannah Georgas Enemies premiered on Vice. He’s also a writer. His script Rothchild was #5 on the 2014 Hollywood Black List. It’s currently in pre-production at Voltage Pictures (U.S.) and will star Shia LaBeouf and Mel Gibson. At the moment, he’s writing The Stopwatch Gang for Universal, with Ruben Fleischer attached to direct and Miles Teller attached to star.
