Walt Disney Pictures has announced that Tim Allen is set to return to his beloved role as Scott Calvin from the blockbuster franchise The Santa Clause for a new Disney+ Original limited series.
Going by the working title The Santa Clause, the series will pick up with Scott Calvin on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.
Allen first starred as Scott Calvin in Disney’s festive smash hit The Santa Clause back in 1994. He would return to the role for 2002’s The Santa Clause 2, as well as his last outing, 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.
Jack Burditt (Modern Family, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) is serving as showrunner on the series, while Allen, Kevin Hench, Richard Baker and Rick Messina serve as executive producers. Filming is set to get underway in March, presumably ahead of a December premiere on the Disney+ streaming service.
