UPDATE: We’ve been contacted by Tim Burton’s reps, who deny that the filmmaker provided any comments to Showbiz spy. So, it looks like this one is false, I’m afraid…
Back in 2013, it was reported that Tim Burton was in talks for the long-rumoured sequel to his 1988 fantasy comedy Beetlejuice, and while we’ve heard rumblings from Burton and stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder over the past couple of years, there’s been nothing in the way of serious movement on Beetlejuice 2.
Well, it looks like that may be about to change, as Burton has been speaking to ShowbizSpy and has apparently revealed that Warner Bros. has now given the green light to the sequel.
“The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael,” states Burton. “We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming.”
So, by the sound of it, Burton will likely move on to Beetlejuice 2 once he finishes up with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which is set for release in September.
