Tim Burton is returning to the same kind of 50s influenced sci-fi which brought us Mars Attacks! to direct a remake of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, which will be written by Gone Girl‘s Gillian Flynn.
According to Deadline Warner Bros. are looking to capitalise on the success of their female-empowerment fable Barbie with a retelling of their own 1958 movie classic, and that Tim Burton is attached to direct, while Gillian Flynn will update Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman‘s themes on American patriarchy for a modern audience.
Directed by Nathan Hertz, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman stars Allison Hayes, William Hudson and Yvette Vickers, and tells the story of a wealthy heiress whose close encounter with an enormous alien in his round spacecraft causes her to grow into a giantess, complicating her marriage which is already troubled by a philandering husband.
Christopher Guest (Best in Show) directed a TV remake in 1993, which featured Daryl Hannah in the titular role.
