Timothée Chalamet, the star of Dune, has revealed that he only did two scenes on green screen in the entire film.
The first trailer for Dune arrived this week, teasing the epic sci-fi adventure that director Denis Villeneuve has put together with his all-star cast.
One would think that a fantasy sci-fi adventure like Dune would involve plenty of irritating green screen work for its actors but, according to star Timothée Chalamet, this wasn’t the case.
Speaking to Twitter Movies, the actor explained that he was very rarely in front of a green screen: “Yeah, you feel the environment and specifically for the role of Paul — and thank you to Denis and I don’t know if the other actors could speak to it than I could, especially Josh [Brolin] who worked on Sicario with Denis — but I think I did two scenes on a green screen. I think it’s literally two scenes I did on a green screen. Besides that, everything else was practical.”

It sounds like Villeneuve and crew went the hard route in utilising plenty of practical effects and real-life locations to tell their story. Moves like this often help films stand the test of time and feel like more tangible experiences so let’s hope this is the case for Dune.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
The film stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise) Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).
