Fresh from the Japanese release of Godzilla: Resurgence (a.k.a. Shin Godzilla), Toho has announced that it is developing a feature length animated movie of the King of the Monsters, titled Godzilla.
“We’re aiming to make a big-scale animation entertainment that people who love Godzilla and people who know nothing about him can both enjoy,” said Kobun Shizuno, who is co-directing with Hiroyuki Seshita. Gen Urobuchi (Pyscho-Pass: The Movie) is handling the story and screenplay.
Godzilla has enjoyed a number of prior animated appearances, including two American cartoons from Habba-Barbera Productions and Sony Pictures Television, along with the GodzillLand series of OVAs in the 1990s, which features chibi-esque versions of Godzilla and his iconic foes.
Godzilla: Resurgence has been picked up for Western distribution and is expected to arrive later this year. Watch the trailer here.
