Josh Trank is looking to put last year’s disastrous Fantastic Four reboot behind him and has tapped Tom Hardy to star as infamous mobster Al Capone in his new film Fonzo, Deadline is reporting.
Written and directed by Trank, Fonzo “centers on Alfonse Capone, the ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist before being famously taken down by Eliot Ness. After nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots his mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.”
Trank enjoyed critical and commercial success with his debut feature Chronicle, although his second effort Fantastic Four was ripped apart by fans and critics, and tanked at the box office. He was also attached to direct a Star Wars Anthology movie, but was removed from the project last May amid rumours about his on-set behavior during the production of Fantastic Four.
