Amazon MGM Studios will bring together two of Hollywood’s rising stars as Tom Holland and Austin Butler are attached to star in American Speed.
Dan Wiedenhaupt is writing the script and is fresh off the Albert Hughes action film Alpha. At the time of writing, there’s no director attached. Holland and Butler have been a big selling point for the project, hoping to attract the perfect fit for Wiedenhaupt’s script.
Per Deadline, the film is “based on the true story of the Whittington brothers —three historically famous race car drivers, two of whom were part of the 1980s IMSA scandal, in which a number of drivers were charged with financing their racing activities with proceeds from drug smuggling, money laundering or tax evasion.”
Atlas’ Ryan Sanak will executive produce. Oppenheimer‘s Charles Roven will produce via his Atlas Entertainment banner alongside RD Whittington and Douglas Banker.
Butler currently is filming the Darren Aronofsky thriller Caught Stealing from a hot 2024 that included Dune: Part Two and The Bikeriders. Holland meanwhile has been all over the news this past week, signing onto Spider-Man 4 as well as a new Christopher Nolan film set for a 2026 release.
