Tomb Raider sequel lands new director in Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green

January 26, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Although it was previously reported back in 2019 that British filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Rebecca) would be helming and co-writing Alicia Vikander’s second outing as the iconic video game heroine Lara Croft, it seems like plans have now changed.

According to Deadline, the Tomb Raider sequel has now landed HBO’s Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green who will be making her directorial debut on the video game movie sequel as well as writing the script. Green later reacted to her hiring over on Twitter by teasing her excitement for the project.

Initially scheduled to release on March 19th, 2021, MGM previously announced last October that the Tomb Raider sequel has been delayed indefinitely with no news on additional cast outside of Alicia Vikander.

Although 2018’s Tomb Raider movie – which was met with a mixed critical and fan response – took inspiration from the 2013 Tomb Raider video game reboot, as the film is potentially going through a re-write, there has been no confirmation whether the sequel will adapt elements from the game’s sequels Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Are you looking forward to the follow-up to 2018’s Tomb Raider? Are you happy with the hiring of Misha Green? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter @flickeringmyth…
