Deadline is reporting that Italian actor Toni Servillo (The Great Beauty) is set to reunite with his Gomorrah director Matteo Garrone on a new live-action version of Pinocchio.
Servillo is set to play Geppetto in the film, which is said to be taking an “artisanal approach, blending prosthetics, special makeup and CGI.”
“Pinocchio is a dream of mine that goes back in time to when I was a child,” said Garrone. “With this movie I will complete my journey through the fairy-tale world that I started with Tale Of Tales.”
A Pinocchio movie is also in the works from Warner Bros., with Ron Howard attached to direct Robert Downey Jr. as Geppetto, while Disney has Peter Hedges (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) penning a script for its own live-action remake of the 1940 animated movie.
