Despite the passing of original director Tony Scott, it seems that producer Jerry Bruckheimer and star Tom Cruise aren’t giving up on their plans for a sequel to Top Gun, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that screenwriter Justin Marks is in talks to work on the script for Top Gun 2.
Should they reach a deal, Marks – whose credits include Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and the upcoming The Jungle Book, Shadow of the Colossus and FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics – will develop the screenplay originally written by Peter Craig (The Town).
Little is known about the plans for Top Gun 2, although Cruise will be back as Maverick “in a story that aims to show the relevance of good old fashioned pilots in today’s high-tech, drone-centric war environment.”
