Trailer for Apple TV+ crime thriller Black Bird starring Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser and Ray Liotta

June 8, 2022 by Amie Cranswick

Apple TV+ has released a trailer and images for Black Bird, the upcoming crime thriller from writer and producer Dennis Lehane (Shutter Island, The Outsider).

Based on actual events, the series stars Taron Egerton as a young man serving 10 years in prison, who is offered the deal of a lifetime when the FBI give him the chance of freedom in exchange for him befriending a suspected serial killer (Paul Walter Hauser) in a maximum security prison for the criminally insane and getting a full confession of where he has hidden the bodies of the women they believed he murdered.

The series also stars Sepideh Moafi, Greg Kinnear and the late Ray Liotta in one of his final screen roles.

Inspired by actual events, when high school football hero and decorated policeman’s son Jimmy Keene (Taron Egerton) is sentenced to 10 years in a minimum security prison, he is given the choice of a lifetime — enter a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane and befriend suspected serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser), or stay where he is and serve his full sentence with no possibility of parole. Keene quickly realizes his only way out is to elicit a confession and find out where the bodies of several young girls are buried before Hall’s appeal goes through. But is this suspected killer telling the truth? Or is it just another tale from a serial liar? This dramatic and captivating story subverts the crime genre by enlisting the help of the very people put behind bars to solve its mysteries.

Black Bird arrives on Apple TV+ on July 8th.
