If you’ve been lucky enough to watch Shin’ichirô Ueda’s cult hit One Cut of the Dead, then the idea of remaking something so unique might seem like a fool’s errand, but Oscar-winning director of The Artist Michel Hazanavicius appears to have pulled it off with Final Cut.
The opening night selection for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, Final Cut tells the story of a director (Romain Duris) making a live, single-take, low-budget zombie flick in which the cast and crew, one by one, actually turn into zombies.
The film also features Bérénice Bejo, Matilda Lutz, Finnegan Oldfield, Luàna Bajrami, Grégory Gadebois, Jean-Pascal Zadi, Lyes Salem, Simone Hazanavicius, Agnés Hurstel, Charlie Dupont, and Raïka Hazanavicius; check out the trailer below…
“Oscar® winner Michel Hazanavicius’ remake of Shin’ichirô Ueda’s cult hit One Cut of the Dead follows a director (Romain Duris, L’Auberge Espagnole) charged with making a live, single-take, low-budget zombie flick in which the cast and crew, one by one, actually turn into zombies. Featuring hysterically unhinged performances from Oscar® nominee Bérénice Bejo (The Artist), Matilda Lutz (Revenge), and Finnegan Oldfield (Corsage), Final Cut is a sly love letter to the art of filmmaking and a blood-soaked, hilarious genre farce with a meta-to-the-max premise.”
Final Cut releases in US theatres on July 14th.
