Adam Sandler has always mixed sports with his comedy films, so it makes sense that he’s approaching one of football’s biggest stars for Happy Gilmore 2.
The filmmaker and actor is writing the sequel with original co-writer Tim Herlihy, and they’ve tapped the Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce.
Sandler was recently on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, sharing with the host the news they’ve found a role for the footballer-turned-actor.
“We have a nice something for Travis,” said Sandler to Fallon. “He’s gonna come by.” Sandler adds, “He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud, and he’s so funny.”
Kelce has wanted to move to the Hollywood side of things for some time. He’s recently landed Taylor Swift as his significant other and has landed some major gigs, such as hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live. He’s also in talks to lead Lionsgate’s Loose Cannons. He’ll also appear in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX horror series Grotesquerie.
Fret not comedy fans; Sandler says he’ll still have some big names from the world of golf in Happy Gilmore 2.
