Troll: The Rise of Harry Potter, Jr. animated movie and TV series announced

July 31, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Well, here’s one way to get attention for your movie…

The 1986 cult classic Troll is set for a revival, with original writer-director John Carl Buechler and SC Films International set to produce a 3D animated feature film entitled Troll: The Rise of Harry Potter, Jr.. Now, before any J.K. Rowling fans get upset, Harry Potter Jr. and his father Harry Potter were characters in the original Troll movie, with the official press release going to great lengths to distance itself from the boy wizard franchise (well, as far as you can distance yourself when you’ve the words ‘Harry Potter’ in your title):

Harry Potter and Harry Potter, Jr. and his family were characters in the 1986 motion picture “TROLL” which was independently created and distributed 11 years before J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter book was written and published.

The reprise of “TROLL: The Rise of Harry Potter, Jr.” has not been prepared, approved or licensed by any entity that created or produced the J.K Rowling series of Harry Potter books or the Warner Bros. series of Harry Potter motion pictures. TROLL: the Movie LLC is not affiliated with J.K.Rowling or Warner Bros nor has this motion picture been endorsed or authorized by J.K.Rowling or Warner Bros. The characters “Harry Potter” and “Harry Potter, Jr.” depicted in TROLL are not related to, or inspired by, the book and film characters of J.K.Rowling and Warner Bros.

Troll: The Rise of Harry Potter, Jr. has already secured Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette as the voice of a witch who helps young Harry in his battle against the evil troll wizard. The feature is expected to arrive in 2017, and will be preceeded by a TV series which is expected next year.
