Just before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, Tron: Ares added more to its growing cast.
Deadline broke the news that Cameron Monaghan, best known for his time on Shameless & the hit Star Wars Jedi games, has joined the film. Alongside Monaghan, THR reported that Yellowjackets star Sarah Desjardins would also join the budding Disney production.
Monaghan and Desjardins join Jared Leto, who is set to play Ares, the manifestation of the program. Greta Lee is playing a video game programmer and tech CEO in what is described as a leading role. There’s no word on who Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters, and the newly cast Monaghan & Desjardins will play.
Tron: Ares will “focus on the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.”
Joachim Ronning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) will helm the third Tron film, with Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne attached to pen the script.
The film attempted to begin shooting in August. But with the WGA Strike and the actor’s strike, any production will take some time before starting.
There’s no set release date for Tron: Ares.
