Variety is reporting that TV Land has given a series order to a small screen reboot of the cult 1988 favourite Heathers, having been impressed with the pilot episode from writer and executive producer Jason Micallef (Butter). The show has secured a ten-episode order and will premiere in the summer as the first ever hourlong series from TV Land.
“Our take on Heathers is a cinematic, surprising and twisted comedy that gives a wonderful nod to the film while also creating something entirely its own,” said Keith Cox, president of development and production for TV Land. “We’re really passionate about this show and the satirical story-telling its provocative characters allow.”
The Heathers TV show is described as “a pitch-black comedy anthology set in the present day, featuring a group of all-new Heathers, who have the same character names from the original film, but this time, the outcasts are the ones who have become high school royalty.” The show will star Grace Victoria Fox in the lead role as Veronica, James Scully as J.D. and Melanie Field, Brendan Scannell and Jasmine Mathews as the three Heathers.
