Villordsutch with five questions about the new Twin Peaks…
Back in 1991 when Laura Palmer sat with Special Agent Dale Cooper in the Black Lodge informing our FBI Agent, “I will see you again in twenty-five years.”, what we as viewers were not aware about at the time was that both David Lynch and Mark Frost were letting us know that we too, would be seeing the return of the Twin Peaks… a quarter of a century later!
When Twin Peaks began, back in 1990, the initial driving mystery was who killed Laura Palmer this then led to the supernatural Black & White lodge and Windom Earle. Amongst these mysteries lay the ‘white picket fences’ of a quiet American town, in the Pacific Northwest region, bordering Canada. However, behind this world of Cherry Pie, Homecoming Queens and Lumber Mills, there were secrets and lies everywhere and that’s before we bring in the supernatural.
Arriving today in America (May 21st) and on Monday (May 22nd) in the UK is Season Three of Twin Peaks and little is known about the upcoming story so below we going to pose five questions about the upcoming season…
How’s Annie?
When we left the world of Twin Peaks Annie Blackburn (Heather Graham), Special Agent Dale Cooper’s (Kyle MacLachlan) girlfriend, ex-nun and Sister of Double-R Diner owner Norma Jennings, wasn’t in a good way. Ejected from the Black Lodge, covered in blood and taken to the hospital with the ‘Owl Ring’ hidden in her hand, she then is somewhat possessed by the spirit of Laura Palmer and passes other the message about the Good Dale Cooper and Laura being trapped within the Black Lodge. To which the nurse promptly pockets the cursed ‘Owl Ring’.
Not much is known in regards to the fate of Annie, we know she was alive but in shock, however we actually may never discover what will happen to her.
Back in November 2014, a month after the announcement that Twin Peaks was set to return Kyle MacLachlan responded to a fans tweet with this.
Depend on it. "@pipandbaby: Will @Kyle_MacLachlan ever find out how Annie is?"
— Kyle MacLachlan (@Kyle_MacLachlan) November 11, 2014
However Heather Graham on the Andy Cohen show “Watch What Happens Live” recently said: “That’s so funny. A lot of people have been asking me about that. I’m really excited to watch [the new Twin Peaks]. I’m not on it, no. No. I wish!”
So will these Annie Blackburn’s life be tied up off-screen, or should we expect a special surprise guest star during season 3?
What’s our new mystery?
Who killed Laura Palmer? – Season 1. Windom Earle & The Lodges – Season 2. What will be Season 3? As we left Season 2 the supernatural evil, who had been given the name “BOB”, had managed to occupy the body of Special Agent Dale Cooper and we were told by Annie/Spirit of Laura that Good Dale is currently trapped in the Black Lodge. Now 25 years on we’re going to see the world of a corrupted previously clean-cut Cooper; we also know that Sheryl Lee who played both Laura Palmer and her niece Maddy Ferguson is returning too, and this could stir the BOB within Cooper. With the passing of the Log Lady (Catherine Coulson) and Major Briggs (Don S. Davis), this has severely limited those that saw the more supernatural elements of the town called Twin Peaks, however Carl Rudd (Harry Dean Stanton) is spotted in the latest trailer and he is more than aware of supernatural happens, so he could be the next link between the Physical World and the Lodges.
Season 3 looks like it could be a battle for one man’s soul which has been in torment for a quarter of a century.
How are the Hornes?
Owner of the Great Northern Hotel in Twin Peaks, Benjamin (Ben) Horne is also known within the community for owning Horne’s Department Store and was, with the help of his brother Jerry, attempting to develop a Country Club initially called “The Ghostwood Development Project” within the Ghostwood National Forest. However, suffering a major breaking down he – for a time – believed himself to be General Robert E. Lee, before attempting to rectify his past mistakes by revealing hidden truths around the town.
Ben Horne also ran One-Eyed Jacks, a Casino and Brothel, in which Laurel Palmer herself had been an employee; this was discovered by Special Agent Dale Cooper and Audrey Horne who managed to smuggle herself into One-Eyed Jacks to find out more of its dealings -unfortunately at one point nearly becoming an ‘special’ employee to her own father.
When we left this mighty family with the boundaries of Twin Peaks Ben was attempting to fix past crimes and to bring his daughter finally into the business to prepare her for the future. However due to a bombing at the local bank in which Audrey found herself involved in, for which she survived, we don’t know where we will find this major family nearly a quarter of a century on. Will the attempt on Audrey’s life and the corrupted Cooper have made this young powerful woman, who was beginning to turn from her father’s original path, now be embracing it with full force?
What about BOB?
BOB was the embodiment of evil within the show. When the denim jacket wearing ‘Killer Bob’ crawled out of a corner from within a room and grinned at his upcoming victim, fear was sent down the coaxial cables into our homes. However, with the passing of Frank Silva, back in September 1995, our stalker from the spiritual beyond needs a different form and there are many names on the cast list revealed back in April 2016; it could be anyone from Trent Reznor to Michael Cera.
Who will be the next BOB and will they be able to capture what Frank Silva had?
“Who do you think this is there?” – Agent Phillip Jeffries
Twenty-five years ago Agent Phillip Jeffries, played by the late David Bowie, strode out of an elevator in the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and – motioning towards Dale Cooper – asked Special Agent Gordon Cole (played by David Lynch) “Who do you think this is there?” Phillip Jeffries was ranting and had been missing for two years, but he seemed to know something about Cooper we didn’t. It was rumoured that David Bowie was set to return to this new series of Twin Peaks and had been in discussion with David Lynch and Mark Frost to reprise his role of Agent Jeffries.
Could we have finally seen the moments before 10:10AM on the 16th February with Jeffries and Cooper(s) trapped in the Black Lodge together? Trapped in a timeless purgatory? This is something we’ll possibly never see in the new series but hopefully, singing back to ‘The New Mystery?’ earlier it will be mentioned.

One thing we should expect is that the masters Lynch and Frost will deliver something that is truly brilliant as they have both wrestled creative control all along the way. We’ve waited a quarter of a century for this and it will be fantastic!
Let’s rock!
