We’ll start things off this week with the DC Extended Universe, and this week saw Zack Snyder jumping back on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens bandwagon with another couple of mashups between the galaxy far, far away and the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice [see here], while we also got a new promo for the film (although it doesn’t include any new footage that I can tell) [see here], a new image of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor [see here], and three character posters featuring Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) [see here]…
…With the release of Batman v Superman fast approaching, we’re starting to see more and more in the way of merchandising for the film; The LEGO Group officially unveiled three Batman v Superman LEGO sets which are set to hit shelves on New Year’s Day [see here], while Hot Toys has revealed its 1/6th scale Batman, Superman and the Batmobile collectibles, along with a life size Armored Batman statue that is being showcased at Hong Kong’s Toy Soul 2015 this weekend…
…This week has also brought us a new synopsis from Warner’s second DC movie of 2016, Suicide Squad, which reads: “It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself..?”
…Moving on to the small screen and with Supergirl set to return from its midseason break on January 4th, CBS has released a batch of images and a synopsis for the midseason premiere ‘Blood Bonds’: “With Astra in captivity at the DEO, her husband, Non (Chris Vance) captures Hank, leading to a tense standoff between the two sides. Also, Kara continues to refute Cat’s allegations that she is Supergirl.” Meanwhile, it’s also been revealed that the White Martians are set to make an appearance in the first season, while DC has also announced that it is launching a new Adventures of Supergirl digital comic book series which take place within the continuity of the show…
…Having voiced the character in CW Seed’s Arrowverse animated series Vixen, it has now been announced that Megalyn Echikunwoke will bring Mari McCabe to live action, with the actress reprising the role for a guest appearance in Arrow. “We’re not only thrilled to be further expanding our DC television universe by bringing in the live-action incarnation of the CW Seed hit, Vixen, we’re immensely excited that Megalyn will be revisiting her role as Mari McCabe,” states executive producer Marc Guggenheim…
…The Flash has also been expanding its cast of DC characters for season two. Adam Stafford has nabbed the role of Adam Fells, a.k.a. the villain Geomancer, who is described as “a dangerous meta-human with the unique ability to create earthquakes. Intent on destroying the Flash, Geomancer uses his powers to unleash a string of targeted earthquakes, optimistic that he’ll draw out the Flash for a mano-a-mano fight to see who’s the most powerful metahuman in Central City.” Meanwhile, casting is also underway for the speedster Eliza Harmon / Trajectory, an “exceptionally bright scientist” with a “split personality a la Jekyll and Hyde…”
…Sticking with the Arrowverse for a moment and ahead of its premiere on January 21st, we’ve got a batch of character posters for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow featuring The Atom (Brandon Routh), Hawkman (Falk Hentschel), Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), Firestorm (Franz Drameh), Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), while it’s also been reported that Matt Nable will be reprising the role of Ra’s al Ghul from Arrow for a guest appearance in the ninth episode of the new show…
…Gotham may not be returning for the second half of season two until the back end of February, but that hasn’t stopped Fox from dropping a new promo which teases that ‘The Freeze Is Coming’. Check it out here…
