…Rumour time now and the folk at Joblo are reporting some details about two of Marvel Studios’ big releases for 2017 in Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. We’ll not get into the nitty gritty here for fear of spoilers, but the rumours concern The Hulk’s involvement in Ragnarok, and the main villain in the Guardians sequel. If you’re interested, you can check them out here…
…James Gunn took to Facebook yesterday to post the above image of himself wielding Mjolnir, which naturally led to speculation that Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder could make a cameo appearance in Guardians Vol. 2 next year. Not so according to Gunn, who said that the props guy just so happened to have the hammer on set…
…It looks like Marvel may have found its Carol Danvers, with a report surfacing this week via The Hollywood Reporter which suggests that Oscar-winner Brie Larson (Room) is the front-runner for the lead in 2019’s Captain Marvel movie (although the character will reportedly debut in Avengers: Infinity War). The report also provided another couple of names for the director’s chair, with Niki Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland, USA) and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) both said to be possible contenders to take the helm…
…This one is a bit sketchy, but Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada has seemingly suggested that the rights to Namor the Sub-Mariner are back at Marvel, although its unclear whether he was referring to Marvel Studios or Marvel Comics. Previously, Kevin Feige has described the rights as complicated, with Universal seemingly holding some of the rights, similar to that of The Incredible Hulk, which prevents the Green Goliath from appearing in a Marvel-produced solo movie. Hopefully we’ll get clarification soon…
…Turning to the small screen and CoSA VFX has released a visual effects reel highlighting its work on the third season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L..D. [watch it here], while Hayley Atwell has spoken about the cancelled Agent Carter, teasing what was planned for season three and revealing that she’d love to reprise the role if it can find another home: “100 percent absolutely. I love Peggy. I love the people working on this project together. The fans are incredibly warm and welcoming, and it’d be an absolute privilege and honor to bring her back for fans. There was talk of season three, which would have delved into her past a little bit more. The showrunners were talking about a possible twist, I suppose, into something to do with my family. They suggested that it would be all to do with my brother…”

…Last year, it was announced that producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura had snapped up the rights to Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s superhero comic series Jupiter’s Legacy, and now comes word that Journey 2: The Mysterious Island screenwriters Brian and Mark Gunn are set to pen the script. “We love that it’s a superhero story about families,” said the duo when asked about the appeal of the project. “How it takes big superhero iconography and makes it relatable to anyone who wrestles with their relationship to their mom or dad, or brother or sister, or son or daughter. It feels very human-sized. We ourselves grew up in a sprawling Irish-Catholic family that was sorta like a discount Midwest version of the Kennedys. Our parents and grandparents were political leaders, lawyers, judges, titans of industry. So when we were growing up we struggled with this family legacy – this burden of living up to the standards of those who came before us, this sense that the past was noble and glamorous while our lives were somehow less than, a falling off. Some of us from this current generation have gone on to do cool things – while others of us have dealt with feeling like misfits and disappointments. It’s this struggle which is at the heart of Jupiter’s Legacy, and which we’re really excited to bring to the screen…”
