I wish I had thought of it. I can’t wait to see that gal, I can’t wait to see that movie, and I think the public will love it…”
…While we’re on the subject of Stan Lee, he’s also shared his thoughts on the weakest Marvel movie casting – and it seems he wasn’t too fond of Julian McMahon’s take on Victor Von Doom in 2004’s Fantastic Four: “I was a little disappointed in the very first Fantastic Four, because I didn’t care for how Doctor Doom was portrayed [by Julian McMahon]. But other than that, I thought the movie was great. And the actors were terrific. I believe they captured the spirit and the intent of all of the characters, and I’m delighted with how they all turned out. None of them have disappointed me. In fact, I think all of these movies have come out better than everybody ever thought they would…Even the early ones were good. Maybe I’m just my own biggest fan…”

…Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito has revealed that he’s turned down a Marvel TV role, as he’s holding out for a movie and doesn’t believe that television characters can make the jump to the big screen: “I know the Marvel world exists on the Disney lot. I love those guys at Marvel. We’ve been trying to figure out how to collaborate on something. I’m hoping that it is something. They came to me with something for their television department, then I realized if I did that, I’d never be able to have that same character be in that film department. Once you’re in a Marvel character in the television version, you have to stay in the particular character. They can’t carry that over to film…”

…As Marvel, Fox and FX gear up to launch Legion in January, creator Noah Hawley has been discussing his approach to the X-Men TV series: “I would be remiss, I feel like, if I didn’t deconstruct this, if I didn’t really try to do something for the genre that feels personal and interesting to me and to really explore if you have a character who for his whole life has believed that he’s schizophrenic, and is now starting to think that he may have these powers, but he doesn’t know and he doesn’t know what’s real – well, that’s the experience the audience should have. To be put into his world is to enter something that’s by definition surreal, because he’s hearing things, he’s seeing things… Are these things real or not real? What can you trust that you’re seeing? And he’s stuck in this moment until he meets a girl [Syd, played by Fargo’s Rachel Keller] and he falls in love and now he’s got something to hope for and that’s the catalyst that pushes everything forward. And, you know, I can never predict the reaction to the work. With Fargo, I could have done my best work and the reaction could have been the complete opposite. I have no control over that, all I can do is tell the best story that I can tell.” Be sure to read the rest of Hawley’s comments on the casting of Dan Stevens as lead David Haller here…
