…Moving on to the DC Extended Universe now and Warner Bros. gave us a new look at its first DC Films release of 2017 with a brand new trailer for Wonder Woman. You can check out the trailer and three new posters featuring Gal Gadot’s Amazon Princess here, be sure to read the thoughts of our writing team in the latest Flickering Myth Reaction for the trailer, and you may also want to check out the trailer re-edited without the slow-motion (it’s 20 seconds shorter), along with a supercut of the trailers, complete with added Led Zeppelin. Meanwhile, in other Wonder Woman news, Hacksaw Ridge composer Rupert Gregson-Williams has revealed that he’ll be scoring the film, and a rumour has emerged suggesting that Patty Jenkins will be reassembling the cast this month for some reshoots, although it’s unknown whether these were pre-planned, or are of the Suicide Squad variety…
…The DCEU hit another stumbling block this week, this time for The Flash solo movie, with director Rick Famuyiwa exiting the project due to “creative differences”, and potentially pushing back the start of production and the March 2018 release date as the studio searches for his replacement. Famuyiwa is the second filmmaker whose vision hasn’t aligned with Warner Bros.’ plans on the project, with the Dope helmer having replaced Seth Grahame-Smith earlier this year. Famuyiwa’s contributions include the casting of his Dope star Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, and Clemons shared a few words on his departure from the film, stating that: “Rick was one of the main reasons I wanted to do the movie. So him not being a part of it is obviously very upsetting to me. All I can do is give it up to the gods. Let’s see what happens. Let’s see who’s going to jump in… Ezra Miller and I are going to do what we promised to do from the beginning. No matter who the director is, I am going to do what I think Iris should be…”
…It seems we may get a glimpse of Clemons’ Iris West before The Flash solo movie, as it has been reported this week that much like Amber Heard’s Mera, Iris will be making a brief cameo appearance in next year’s Justice League. And it seems we also know who’ll be portraying the villainous Steppenwolf in the Zack Snyder-directed ensemble, with a report this week stating that Game of Thrones star Ciaran Hinds has completed his motion-capture work as the New God, and that the design of the character will be revamped from the glimpse we seen in the Ultimate Edition cut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice…
…Rumour time again now, and according to Bret Easton Ellis (author of American Psycho), the script for Ben Affleck’s The Batman has “serious problems”, and Warner Bros. doesn’t really care. Pinch of salt time obviously, but according to Ellis: “I was having dinner with a couple of executives who know other executives who are working on the Batman movie, The Batman. And they were just telling me that there are serious problems with the script. And that the executives I was having dinner with were complaining about people who work on the Batman movie. And they just said they went to the studio and they said, ‘Look, the script is … Here’s 30 things that are wrong with it that we can fix.’ And [the executives] said, ‘We don’t care. We don’t really care. The amount of money we’re going to make globally, I mean 70 percent of our audience is not going to be seeing this in English. And it doesn’t really matter, these things that you’re bringing up about the flaws of the script…”
…As Suicide Squad gears up for its home-entertainment release, stills photographer Clay Enos unveiled a new portrait image of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, which you can see here…
…Comic book legend Frank Miller has been talking about the Batman movie franchise this week, sharing a few comments on the aborted Batman: Year One adaptation he was developing in the early 2000s with Darren Aronofsky, as well as stating how he’d tackle the Dark Knight if he was in control of the movie franchise: “That screenplay was based on my book Batman: Year One, and yeah it was much more down to earth. In it a fair amount of time is spent before he became Batman, and when he went out and fought crime he really screwed it up a bunch of times before he got it right. So it was 90-minute origins story… My dream would be to make it much smaller. To lose the toys and to focus more on the mission, and to use the city a great deal more. Because he’s got a loving relationship with the city he’s protecting. And unlike Superman his connection to crime is intimate; it has been ever since his parents were murdered. And he defeats criminals with his hands. So it would be a different take. But it will never be in my hands, because it would not be a good place to make toys from. There wouldn’t be a line of toys.” Miller was also asked for his opinion on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, drawing on The Dark Knight Returns with regards to the depiction of Batman, responding: “I’ll just say: ‘Thanks.’ What can I say? — he laughs — no, actually I’ll withdraw that; I’ll say: ‘You’re welcome!’”…

…This week has also brought some Arrow casting news, with Stargate SG-1 alumnus Lexa Doig set to take on the recurring role of Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul (Matt Nable) and half-sist of Nyssa (Katrina Law). Meanwhile, executive producer Wendy Mericle has some bad news for any Green Lantern fans hoping that the show’s repeated Easter eggs will eventually lead to the introduction of Hal Jordan: “One of the fun parts of the show is that you can put these characters in and the Easter eggs and the fans that know this universe so well respond to it on varying levels of excitement and whatnot, but the thing about [Susan’s] character that’s so intriguing is that it operates on that level. It also operates because she’s someone who’s very intrigued by Oliver, who’s going to uncover some secrets that Oliver has, which is going to be really fun, and is a fun nod to the Green Lantern, who obviously we could never bring on the show…”

…And finally, it’s been reported this week that Paramount Pictures has snapped up the rights to Rob Liefeld’s Avengelyne, and has tapped Avika Goldsman (Batman Forever, Batman & Robin) to produce an adaptation of the comic book, which follows the titular character, a fallen angel battling the forces of evil on Earth. Liefeld has been trying to get a movie adaptation up and running for several years, and in 2013 he enlisted Gina Carano for the lead, although that version failed to get off the ground.
