In this edition of The Week in Spandex, we look at Justice League, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Suicide Squad, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham, Superman Lives, Justice League Action, The LEGO Batman Movie, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Carnage, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Defenders, Logan, New Mutants and more…
We’ll start things off with the DC Extended Universe this week, and director Zack Snyder has shared a selection of behind-the-scenes images (and the cool little doodle above) for Justice League, while Ray Fisher has been speaking about his preparations for the role of Cyborg, stating that: “I actually grew up watching a lot of these cartoons – a lot of the animated series. Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, all the stuff that would come onto Cartoon Network. My first encounter with Cyborg was through the Teen Titans cartoon. I was in the middle of high school [when Teen Titans debuted], and I was like, ‘This show speaks to me’ because there were all of these characters going through these real teen issues while also saving the world. The extent of my knowledge was just about that. Once I was cast, though, they send you a whole library of stuff about the character so I ended up being able to fall in love with the comic book version which can be very different. I feel like I know him like the back of my hand, but there’s always somebody who knows a little more than me about things…”
…Said Taghmaoui has shared a new behind-the-scenes image from Wonder Woman featuring his mystery character alongside Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince; take a look at the image here…
…During a promotional interview for his new film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Ezra Miller discussed his DCEU role as The Flash, revealing that Barry Allen will still be learning to control his abilities in the 2018 solo movie, and that he thinks it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a fully-powered Flash in the DCEU: “What I find fascinating is that we’re still very much amateur-hour Speedster. I’d love for the series to track an evolution of Barry Allen’s early times as The Flash… I love this comic Kingdom Come – unbelievable art – and in that The Flash is fully evolved, and you never even see him, right? It’s just like a red mist, and there’s no crime in [Keystone] City. He protects a whole chunk of the country. So that wouldn’t make for the most interesting film – you know what I mean? What do we have to learn about that guy? That guy barely exists, right? He’s almost one with the Speed Force. So it’s interesting to go to the beginning…”

…Flickering Myth’s Tai Freligh managed to nab an exclusive interview with Arrow star Echo Kellum [read it here], while Stephen Amell discussed the show’s landmark 100th episode, which airs this coming Wednesday as part of the ‘Invasion!’ crossover: “It is such a radical departure from anything that we have ever done on the show,” states Amell. “We utilize the fantastical elements that we bring in on The Flash and carry through to Legends of Tomorrow with the present-day storyline to create something… that is not a flashback [or] a flash-forward. It’s something else entirely. [The scenario] basically gives us license to do whatever we want and to show some things that we’ll never be able to show, to have some characters interact that will never be able to interact on the show again — probably. There [is] a very therapeutic moment for my character towards the end [of the Arrow episode] where I get to say goodbye to people that I never got the chance to say goodbye to…”

But Frank harbors a dark secret, one that will upset the very foundations of Jim’s world and force him into a terrible choice between saving his family and saving his city…”
…We may have got a lucky escape back in the 90s when Warner Bros. pulled the plug on Tim Burton’s Superman Lives, but screenwriter Kevin Smith has revealed this week that he’d love to see an animated adaptation of the project, which would have starred Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel: “I’m not going to lie, that would be fun to see. That’s something I worked on 20 years ago at this point, so that would be really amazing to kind of see them turn it into a cartoon and get the people to do the voices. Nic Cage is still around and stuff. And I wanted Michael Rooker for my Lex Luthor so that would be amazing. You know, I’m game, but that ain’t up to me kids. That’s up to the good folks at Warner Bros. and stuff, but if they were ever to call and say hey we want to do a cartoon version of that Superman script we wrote, believe me I’d be like (melts), that’d be dope man. You know you close all loops in life, one way or another, and that would be a nice way to close that loop…”
