…Moving on to the DC Extended Universe now and a few weeks ago, Ben Affleck played down talk of The Batman, stating that “there is no Batman movie happening yet”. Well, it seems he was either playing coy, or someone forgot to tell Joe Manganiello, with the actor – who is set to portray Deathstroke alongside Affleck’s Dark Knight – revealing in an interview this week that he is “getting ready to go shoot Batman in the spring.” Assuming Manganiello isn’t mistaken, that means we could probably expect to see The Batman occupying Warner’s October 5th 2018 release date, unless the studio decides to shuffle any of its upcoming DC Films slate…
…Zack Snyder took to Twitter to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Wonder Woman by releasing a new image of Gal Gadot’s Amazon Princess from next year’s Justice League movie [see here], while Gadot and TV star Lynda Carter appeared together at the United Nations, where Wonder Woman was being named Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls…
…Having been attached to the project for a couple of years back in the mid-2000s, Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon shared his thoughts on the upcoming Wonder Woman solo movie: “I want it to be good. The trailer was just wonderful. I’ll probably be disappointed, me more than anybody else, because I’ll be like, “Wow, my version…” or whatever, but I can still get myself up for it. The trailer had her shield and her fire hammer and yep, I’m good, this will be fine, everything is good. Such an image…”
…Whedon also commented on the subject of ‘Marvel vs. DC’, stating that: “I did not see Suicide Squad,” said Whedon. “I saw Batman v Superman. Everybody’s got their own method. I think Marvel has been more successful systematically. DC has been more cinematic—their stuff looks amazing—but I feel like Kevin Feige [President of Marvel Studios] is a really good storyteller. He really cares about coherence, and I feel like style never defeats substance at Marvel, but a little style creeps in. Ant-Man had some, Doctor Strange might be funky, and they are doing very fun things on TV. The Marvel-Netflix thing is working really well. DC’s decision to have their shows on TV with different actors playing the same characters at the same time as their movies, is a little interesting
…Following Snyder’s reveal of Mera a couple of weeks back, Aquaman director James Wan has shared his thoughts on the chemistry between Amber Heard and Jason Momoa, as well as his plans for the 2018 solo movie: “I think Amber and Jason Momoa, in their moments in Justice League, (are) going to give the rest of the world a flavor of what their own standalone movie could be. kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story. It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone…”
…Following his guest appearance in the first two episodes of Supergirl season two, there’s been a lot of speculation as to whether we’ll see more of Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, and producer Andrew Kreisberg addressed that very question this week: “We’re so happy with what we get to do. I don’t mean for that to sounds as bad as it does, but we asked if we could have Superman in the first episode, and DC and Warner Bros. said ‘you could have him for the first two episodes’ and we were like ‘great!’ I’m not going to sit here and say that there’s never going to be a world in which there’s a Superman TV show and that Tyler’s going to star in it — I don’t know what the future holds, but right now that’s not our focus. Right now, we’re working onSupergirl, which is the flagship, and we’re working on a way for Tyler to reprise the role. That’s really what our focus is: on Supergirl…”

…We’re just a few weeks away from The CW’s annual DC crossover, and Marc Guggenheim has been speaking about the format this year, as Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl joins the fray: “Some people call it a four-way crossover because it involves four shows; my ulcer requires me to call it a three-part crossover. The story that’s being told has a beginning, middle, and end: a beginning in Flash, a middle in Arrow, and an end in Legends. But Supergirl is very much a part of the whole thing, so we are crossing over four shows — four shows in three parts. Last year, Supergirl established that Flash was able to make his way to what I call Earth-CBS, and it stands to reason that, with the proper breach technology, the reverse can happen,” he continued. “Once the heroes realize that they’re up against aliens, they decide that they need an alien on their side. Fortunately, Barry knows a really nice one. I don’t think it’s a big shock that between Barry and Cisco, and all their experiences with Earth-2 and the multi-verse, that they can pluck her from Earth-CBS…”
