…It’s been announced this week that the upcoming Marvel comedy series New Warriors will no longer air on Freeform, as the Disney-owned network has been unable to find a place for it in its 2018 schedule. Apparently the pilot tested “through the roof”, and the search is now underway to find the series a new home…
…The Merc with a Mouth was in need of a new composer for his upcoming sequel following Junkie XL’s departure in a show of solidarity with Deadpool director Tim Miller, and now it’s been reported this week that Tyler Bates has signed on to score Deadpool 2. Bates has previously worked with director David Leitch on John Wick and Atomic Blonde, while his superhero C.V. includes Watchmen, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the upcoming Netflix series The Punisher…

…With less than a fortnight to go until the release of Justice League, Warner Bros. launched its Batman Week (does that mean next week is Superman Week?) with a featurette on Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight [see here] as well as a Batman motion poster [see here], while Danny Elfman has confirmed that he’ll be using the classic Tim Burton Batman theme as part of his score for the film [read more here]. Meanwhile, we also have a huge batch of new images [see here], Day of the Dead-themed posters [see here], behind-the-scenes images and TV spots [see here], an IMAX poster and magazine covers [see here], two clips of Batman recruiting Barry Allen and Arthur Curry [watch them here], and a series of cast interviews [see here], while Henry Cavill has briefly spoke about Superman’s importance to the film [read his comments here]…
…Cavill has also been chatting about the DCEU this week, stating that he feels it has made some mistakes, but Wonder Woman has marked a turning point for the series: “There was a style they [DC] were going for, an attempt to be different and look at things from a slightly different perspective, which hasn’t necessarily worked. Yes, it has made money but it has not been a critical success; it hasn’t given everyone that sensation which superheroes should give the viewer… I feel like now the right mistakes have been made and they haven’t been pandered [to], and we can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told. It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. Wonder Woman was the first step in the right direction.” You can read the rest of Cavill’s comments here…
…Following last week’s news that Zachary Levi has been cast in the lead role in Shazam, we’ve had word this week that Grace Fulton is in talks to reunite with her Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg on the film (with speculation suggesting she could be playing Billy Batson’s sister Mary Marvel), and Green Lantern’s Mark Strong is also said to be in negotiations to play the film’s villain Doctor Sivana. Meanwhile, Zachary Levi also spoke of his excitement at his upcoming role, stating: “Honored and greatly humbled to be a part of the DC Universe by bringing the original Captain Marvel to life. I am beside myself with gratitude, not only for this opportunity, but also the incredible outpouring of love and support from so many of you out there in the world. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in the gym for the rest of forever.” Seems some fans took his comments about “the original Captain Marvel” as a dig at the MCU, with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn clarifying to those people that Shazam is indeed the original Captain Marvel…
…Gunn also waded in with his thoughts on the rivalry between DC and Marvel fans, calling it “wasted energy”: “Every time I mention anything DC, no matter what, my feed becomes an endless screaming match about Batman v Superman,” said Gunn on Twitter. “You guys are never going to convince each other — it’s just a bunch of wasted energy. At least when you’re screaming at each other about Trump, it’s something of international importance. But it’s a 2 year old movie that some people like and some people don’t. Why is someone else’s opinion so important to you? As Marvel and DC super fans you have way more in common with each other than you do with the rest of the world. So why do you spend so much time raging at each other? It’s silly. Please just stop it. Stop engaging in that way…”
…It looks like Warner Bros. is starting to move forward with its Black Adam movie, with Adam Sztykiel, the creator of NBC’s comedy Undateable, signing on this week to pen the script for the film, which is set to star Dwayne Johnson as the titular anti-hero. Meanwhile, following the announcement of a Deathstroke solo movie, Joe Manganiello took to social media to tease the project with an image of Slade Wilson’s battle-damaged mask…
…If rumours are to be believed, Warner Bros. has put its search for a director on the Flashpoint movie on hold, and is waiting to see how audiences and critics react to Justice League before deciding whether to move forward with the project…
…Turning to the small screen now and it has been announced that Gotham will be getting another new Poison Ivy, with Peyton List (who played Lisa Snart in The Flash) following in the footsteps of Clare Foley and Maggie Geha. “In the continuing evolution of Poison Ivy’s origin story, Ivy Pepper has been transformed once again taking another step toward becoming the Ivy we know from the comics,” reads a statement from the Gotham producers. “Dangerous. A live wire of crazy energy. She’ll set her sights on Gotham, intent on making the city her own green paradise.” Meanwhile, you may want to read Martin Carr’s review of this week’s seventh episode ‘A Day in the Narrows’, and take a look at a promo and images for the next episode ‘Stop Hitting Yourself’ [see here and here] and a batch of images for the following week’s ‘Let Them Eat Pie’ [see here], along with Tai Freligh’s interview with Michael Maize, whi plays the character of Grady [read it here]…
