The DC Extended Universe hasn’t had the best of success with critics, but that all changed this past week as the review embargoes on Wonder Woman lifted, with the film enjoying an overwhelmingly positive response, pushing it to 94% on Rotten Tomatoes (that’s the same as The Dark Knight, folks). We’ve got a few reviews of the film here on Flickering Myth – check out Luke Owen’s ★★★★ review here, Robert Kojder’s ★★★★★ review here, and Ricky Church’s ★★★★ review here – while former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter has also given it her seal of approval. And it looks like the film is going to prove a hit with audiences too, with the Gal Gadot-headlined solo movie on course for a $100 million domestic opening and around $200 million worldwide (well, except Lebanon, where it has been banned)…
…As you’d expect, Warner Bros. unveiled plenty of promotional material for Wonder Woman this week, including a new poster [see here], a TV spot featuring a glimpse of Diana’s battle with Ares [watch it here], and a thirteen minute long making of featurette [watch it here]. Meanwhile, director Patty Jenkins shared his thoughts on the film’s World War I setting and the fact that Wonder Woman isn’t averse to killing [read her comments here], along with her insistence that the film avoid an R-rating [see here], while Gal Gadot discussed the evolution of the character during the film and beyond [see here]…

…As production continues on the Aquaman movie, a new set photo arrived online this week giving us our first look at Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry with Amber Heard’s Mera [see here], while Nicole Kidman revealed how James Wan convinved her to sign on for the role of Atlanna, and producer Charles Roven spoke about the film’s place in the DCEU timeline, confirming that it will take place after the events of Justice League…
…As Warner Bros. continues its search for a new director on Justice League Dark, it’s been rumoured this week that Damian Szifron (Wild Tales) is a possible contender to succeed Doug Liman and Guillermo del Toro on the supernatural DC ensemble. Sizifron is the second director linked to the project after It helmer Andres Muschietti. Meanwhile, it seems that WB is considering suing Universal Pictures over its shared ‘Dark Universe’ monster series, given that was the title the studio has been using for Justice League Dark during the development process…
…While Josh Gad has previously dismissed his Penguin / DC social media teases as a bit of fun, the Frozen star has been at it again this week, prompting further speculation about his potential casting as Oswald Cobblepot in the DCEU by posting a photo of him at the DC offices with DC Films chiefs Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Look closely, and you may also notice he’s holding a copy of Batman Adventures Vol. 1 which features the Penguin on the cover…
…Prime 1 Studio has unveiled a batch of promotional images for its latest Suicide Squad collectible in its 1:3 scale Batman statue, based on the likeness of Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight; take a look at the images here…
…In celebration of the release of DC’s female-led comic book movie Wonder Woman, Screen Junkies braved Warner’s latest female-led comic book movie Catwoman for its latest Honest Trailer, and you can watch it here…
…Turning to the small screen and you can read Martin Carr’s review of this week’s twentieth episode of Gotham season three ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ here, while we also have a trailer and promo for Monday’s two-part finale ‘Destiny Calling’ and ‘Heavydirtysoul’ [watch them here and here], along with a featurette on the introduction of Ra’s al Ghul, played by Alexander Siddig [watch it here]. And it seems Ra’s won’t be the only familiar face making their debut in the finale, as it has also been confirmed that Harley Quinn will make an appearance…
…Over at the CW and it has been announced this week that Odette Annable is set to play the main villain Reign in the third season of Supergirl, while we also have confirmation of the big bad for the fourth season of The Flash [no spoilers, but you can find out who it is here]. Meanwhile, Stephen Amell has revealed that he believes Deathstroke is the best villain in Arrow, and actor Manu Bennett has taken to social media to express his interest in a Slade Wilson spinoff show…
…Following last week’s trailer, we’ve now had a look at the Blu-ray cover art, official synopsis and special features for the next DC Universe Animated Original Movies release Batman and Harley Quinn, which is based on an original story by Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) and sees Batman and Nightwing forced to team up with Harley to save mankind from the latest dastardly scheme from Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue; take a look here…
