We’re less than three weeks away from the fourth instalment of the DC Extended Universe – and the first female-headlined superhero movie since 2005’s Elektra – and this week has brought us some exciting new promotional material for Wonder Woman. First up was the final ‘Rise of the Warrior’ trailer [watch it here], followed by a new poster featuring Gal Gadot’s Amazon Princess alongside Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor [see here], three new TV spots [watch them here] and a photo of Gadot’s Diana alongside Eugene Brave Rock’s Chief [see here], as well as the official tracklisting for the original motion picture score, which gives some details as to the plot of the film [see here]. Meanwhile, some updated box office tracking reports surfaced online, suggesting that the movie is looking at a domestic opening weekend of between $65 and $75 million. …Diane Lane caused a bit of a stir this week when she seemingly said that the upcoming DC ensemble Justice League wouldn’t be better than The Avengers. However, it turns out her comments were misconstrued, with her rep releasing a statement that reads: “Diane meant ‘sorry to disappoint’ in reference to revealing anything concerning Justice League that is not already out in the public, and, was declining to comment on a film (Avengers) that she has not seen. She is thrilled to continue her role as Martha Kent, and appreciates your excitement for Justice League. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to clarify this…”
…From one Justice League to another now and director Doug Liman has been talking about his plans for Justice League Dark, revealing the classic horror movies which are serving as his inspiration, as well as promising to deliver something very different to other comic book movies: “I think people will be surprised how character driven and how intimate Justice League Dark is — in kind of a field of bloated comic book movies. We’ve found a way to do something that’s actually really personal and small, and that’s my goal. [My new movie] The Wall is about character. The scenario allows me to dive into what I think is… I just love people! I love putting people in crazy situations. For John Constantine, we have an amazing set-up for him for Justice League Dark that’s really human…”
…Rumour time now and with filming underway on Aquaman, it has been reported that Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta and Dolph Lundgren’s King Nereus won’t be the only threats facing Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry. According to “sources close to the production” – read: pinch of salt – the carnivorous monster race The Trench are also set to feature, and will be created using practical effects (actors in body suits and stilts) with animatronic faces as opposed to full CGI…
…We’ve had confirmation this week that two new DC TV projects have received series orders and will be premiering later this year; first up is Syfy’s Krypton, with the Superman prequel series also getting a first look cast image featuring Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El (Kal-El’s grandfather), Rasmus Hardiker as Kem and Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, as well as the following official synopsis: “Syfy’s Krypton, the much-anticipated Superman prequel set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, will follow Superman’s grandfather–whose House of El was ostracized and shamed–as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos…”
…The CW has also added another Greg Berlanti DC offering, giving a series order to Black Lightning, which has the following synopsis: “Black Lightning stars Williams as a retired superhero named Jefferson Pierce, who finds himself back in vigilante mode thanks to his justice-seeking daughter and the threat of a star student being recruited by a local gang. The series also stars Nefessa Williams (Code Black), China Anne McClain (Descendants 2), and Christine Adams (Terra Nova)…”
…We have however said goodbye to one DC show, with NBC officially cancelling the Vanessa Hudgens-headlined Powerless after just one season. The news won’t come as much of a surprise, considering the network pulled the show from its schedule last month with three episodes still to air…
