…Moving on to the small screen side of the MCU and you can read Danny Hale’s review of the two-part season finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season three here, while actress Chloe Bennet may have got herself in some hot water with her Marvel bosses after stating at a convention appearance that the studio “doesn’t seem to care” about the show: “People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Cause they don’t seem to care! The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to do [appear in a movie], but they don’t seem to keen on that idea…”
…Over at Netflix and Mike Colter has been sharing some details on September’s Luke Cage series: “There are politicians and then there are shady characters that function on the other side of the law. Who does what? I won’t say, but this becomes a situation where there are a lot of people who want to help Harlem and think they have Harlem’s best interests, but, ultimately, just because they think or say they have Harlem’s best interests, sometimes they’re being very selfish or being very short-sighted. So sometimes what they’re doing is actually harming the community. So this is where Luke comes in because Luke is a person who likes to, he observes and he listens and he takes in to account what people tell him, and he’s a pretty smart guy himself and he understands that some peoples’ way may not be the best may not be the best in the big picture so ultimately Luke has to get involved because there are a lot of things that happen, a lot of people get hurt, a lot of lives are lost and unfortunately he’s the only one who is capable of actually helping deal with this because sometimes the law enforcement is actually not the best because they’re not aware or they’re not capable, or maybe they’re corrupt. So, without getting into too many details, Luke Cage is gonna have to step up and be the man…”
…This won’t come as much of a surprise given the connection between the characters in the comics, but it has been announced this week that Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise her Jessica Jones role as Jeri Hogarth in next year’s Iron Fist series. “Carrie-Anne has fast become a fan-favorite part of our street level saga, and we share our viewers’ excitement in bringing her into Marvel’s Iron Fist,” states Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “As Marvel fans know, Hogarth in the comics plays a critical role in the life of Danny Rand so it seems only fitting that Carrie-Anne join in…”
…Good news Marvel fans! A rumour has surfaced this week claiming that Netflix is close to giving the green light to three new series in Moon Knight, Ghost Rider and Blade. Bad news Marvel fans! Said rumour comes from the same bullshit merchants that made up the John Boyega / Black Panther rumour, so something tells me this one is likely to be a pack of lies too…
…Faced with the mixed reception and box office underperformance of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and incessant rumours of trouble inside the DC Extended Universe (most of which revolve around Zack Snyder), Warner Bros. has this week announced an executive-level reshuffle in an effort to course correct the DCEU. How so? Well, the studio has now created a new division dedicated to DC films – and appropriately titled DC Films – which will be spearheaded by DC’s chief creative officer Geoff Johns and studio exec Jon Berg. Both have been added as producers on Justice League, and will oversee the rest of the DC Films slate going forward…
…We can now add one more movie to that DC slate, with news breaking this week that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is set to lead a spinoff movie which will “focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains”, with the likes of Batgirl and Birds of Prey mentioned as possibilities. Robbie has apparently been instrumental in the project, bringing in a writer before taking the project to Warner Bros., which then enlisted her as a producer…
…Robbie will of course make her debut as Harley in August’s Suicide Squad, and the actress has been speaking about the role this week: “She doesn’t even have superpowers. She’s just a psychopath who runs around gleefully killing people—she finds joy in causing mayhem, which makes her weirdly endearing and fun to watch.” Director David Ayer also went on to discuss Robbie’s performance, adding that: “[Margot] is a tough girl, and she’s incredibly smart and mature beyond her years. She has ridiculous depth, and she’s never been coddled, so she’s very physically courageous. The things she was doing herself as far as stunts, you wouldn’t believe. There’s only a handful of actors who do that sort of work themselves…”

…The CW is also looking ahead to the fall season, where The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will be joined on the schedule by the second season of Supergirl. To celebrate, the network has released a couple of promos for its expanding DC universe [watch them here], while network president Mark Pedowitz spoke about the Supergirl acquisition and teased a big four-way crossover: “We are sitting down with Greg Berlanti and his team next week or so. We have a rough idea where they’re heading and, because our working relationship with Greg, we’re confident they understand what our needs are. As for the tone or tonality of the series, they did have a pretty successful series. The fact it’s now moved to The CW, where it should have been in the first place, I don’t think it will have a big impact on the tone. This is a good thing for The CW, our parent companies [Warner Bros. and CBS Corp.] recognized this was the right place for it, and were deeply supportive across the board. Just imagine what our superhero crossover episode is going to look like come December. [It’s going to be] our biggest one ever…”
…Having cancelled Constantine last year, NBC is dipping its toes back into the world of DC Comics this season with the “workplace comedy” Powerless, and this week has brought the first trailer for the series, which sees Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers) leading a cast that also includes Alan Tudyk (Firefly), Danny Pudi (Community), Christina Kirk (A to Z) and Kate Micucci (The Big Bang Theory). Watch the trailer here…
