…Turning to DC now and Devin Faraci of Birth.Movies.Death has been pouring more doom on the DC Extended Universe with his latest rumour, suggesting that Ben Affleck “was incredibly unhappy” with regards to the reception for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and “felt humiliated after spending so much of the press tour saying how much better this film would be than Daredevil.” Affleck’s agent was also apparently annoyed that Warner’s Kevin Tsujihara announced him as director on the solo Batman movie when negotiations were still underway…
…Faraci has also thrown out a couple of rumours relating to the currently-in-production Justice League Part One; first up is claims that the main villain will be Steppenwolf, who is one of Darkseid’s main generals, and a character we glimpsed in a deleted scene from Batman v Superman alongside Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. Apparently the character “has a contentious history with Darkseid, which could be why he’s invading the Earth. But stopping him – and, I’m assuming, his Parademon hordes – requires more power than the members of the Justice League can muster, and so they must turn to a dead friend for help.” Meanwhile, Faraci also claims that Willem Dafoe’s mystery character will be an Atlantean, and that the 2018 Aquaman movie is undergoing “a complete page one rewrite”…
…Gal Gadot took to social media this week to announce that principal photography has wrapped on next year’s Wonder Woman movie, while director Patty Jenkins celebrated the end of production by sharing a photo of the cast and crew of the Amazon Princess’ solo debut…
…A new image from Suicide Squad has arrived online, giving us another look at Jared Leto’s Joker and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn together; check it out here, and take a look at an animated trailer for Funko’s upcoming Suicide Squad Pop! Vinyl figures here…
…We’ve still got a long while to wait for Green Lantern Corps, and Warner Bros. has extended that a little further this week, announcing that it has pushed back the release a little over a month to July 24th 2020…
…A few weeks ago Warner Bros. expanded its DCEU slate with two new untitled films, and now it looks like we may know one of them. This week it was reported that Thor and X-Men: First Class scribe Zack Stentz is penning a Booster Gold script for Greg Berlanti of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl fame to direct, with Berlanti subsequently confirming the news: “I’m attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he’s writing the script now. I’d probably direct that, or I would want to.” However, Berlanti has no interest in replacing Seth Graheme-Smith as director of The Flash movie, adding that: “No one’s discussed that with me, but I could never direct a Flash movie that Grant Gustin wasn’t the lead of. He’s my Flash…”
…We can officially add another DC show to the next TV season, with NBC placing a series order for the workplace comedy Powerless, which stars Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers, Sucker Punch), Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Zootopia) and Danny Pudi (Community, Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Here’s the official synopsis: “Vanessa Hudgens stars as Emily, a spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes. It’s when she stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she accidentally becomes a cult ‘hero’ in her own right … even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.” You can check out the first promotional images for Powerless here…
…Another DC show has taken a step closer to becoming a reality, with David S. Goyer’s Superman prequel series Krypton receiving a pilot order from Syfy. “Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe,” states Bill McGoldrick of NBC Universal. “In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.” Krypton “is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. It follows Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos…”
…Having been on the bubble at CBS, it has now been confirmed that Supergirl has been renewed for a second season, although as rumoured Kara will be heading to a new home on The CW, where she’ll find herself in the company of the Arrowverse shows (as well as having to contend with a reduced budget)…
…Kevin Smith made his DC directorial debut this past week with the twenty-first episode of The Flash season two, entitled ‘The Runaway Dinosaur’, and you can read Jessie Robertson’s review here; meanwhile, be sure to check out a trailer and promo for Tuesday’s ‘Invincible’ here, along with a batch of promo images featuring Katie Cassidy as the Earth-2 Black Siren here…
…Smith has been talking about being invited back to direct an episode of The Flash in its third season, as well as revealing that he’d like to write for Arrow: “I wouldn’t want to write on Flash. I would, though, like to write on Arrow. I would love to jump in for a one or two episode arc just to bring that Onomatopoeia character to life. That would be so badass – I created this character in the comics and then to do a live-action version of it that fit into their universe, fit into the run of their show? That would be exciting to me. That’s the one I can get my head around writing, but Flash, whenever they bring me back, I think I prefer somebody else doing it. I heard rumor that when I go back, I think Zack [Stentz] might be writing my script again, which would be amazing – we’d be keeping the home team together, so that’d be cool.” You can read the rest of Smith’s comments here…
…And that leads us nicely into Arrow; be sure to read Jessie’s review of Wednesday’s ‘Monument Point’ here, and take a look at a trailer and promo and a batch of images for this coming week’s penultimate episode of season four, ‘Lost in the Flood’…

…Ahead of its release in August, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has unveiled details of the Blu-ray special features for Batman: The Killing Joke, as well as an official synopsis which reads: “Based on the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name, Batman: The Killing Joke takes a journey into the dark psyche of the Clown Prince of Crime – from his humble beginnings as a struggling comedian to his fateful encounter with Batman that changes both of their lives forever. Years later, and now escaped from Arkham Asylum, The Joker devises a plan to prove that one bad day can make anyone as insane as he is – setting his sights on Commissioner Gordon. It’s up to the Dark Knight to put a stop to The Joker’s latest scheme and save one of Gotham City’s finest. Following a gripping prologue introducing Barbara Gordon’s heroic adventures alongside Batman as Batgirl, Batman: The Killing Joke stays true to the authentic tale that has held fans’ imaginations for nearly three decades – spotlighting the birth of a Super-Villain, the fortitude of a Super Hero and the punchline that will leave you speechless…“
