After Edgar Wright decided to bail on Ant-Man, Marvel Studios identified a shortlist of potential candidates to replace him in the director’s chair, only for two of the names – Adam McKay (Anchorman) and Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re the Millers) – to subsequently decline the studio’s offer.
Well, with next month’s planned production start date looming, it seems Marvel has now cast its net a little wider, with Deadline revealing that Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors) and Michael Dowse (Take Me Home Tonight, Goon) are now both on the studio’s radar, although Thurber apparently remains the number one pick.
What do you make of these latest names? Suitable replacements for Edgar Wright? Or at this point, do they just need to anyone someone in the director’s chair?
Ant-Man is currently scheduled for release on July 17th 2015 and will see Paul Rudd (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) leading the cast as Scott Lang alongside Michael Douglas (Behind the Candelabra) as Hank Pym, while Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Matt Gerald (Escape Plan) and Michael Pena (American Hustle) are also set to feature.
