Uncharted movie loses yet another director, likely to be pushed back again

December 30, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Just when it seemed the stars had finally aligned for Sony’s Uncharted movie, Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee) has been forced to vacate the director’s chair on the long-planned video game adaptation due to scheduling issues.

As reported by Deadline, Nathan Drake actor Tom Holland’s schedule for the recently announced Spider-Man 3 is likely to push back production on Uncharted, which had been eyeing an early 2020 shoot. As a result, Knight will be exiting the planned film, although Holland is said to remain attached, as is Mark Wahlberg, who was recently cast as Nathan Drake’s mentor and fellow treasure hunter Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan.

Sony has been developing its big screen adaptation of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed video game series since 2008, with a host of filmmakers coming and going over the years including David O. Russell (The Fighter), Neil Burger (Divergent), Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) and Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane).

The Uncharted movie reportedly remains a top priority for Sony, although it certainly feels cursed at this point, and fans must surely be questioning whether the project will ever see the light of day. What do you think? Let us know in the comments, or on our social channels…
