Universal has arrived at the significant mark of $5 billion at the global box office.
We reported last week that Warner Bros. had managed to eclipse the impressive $5 billion figure at the global box office, and now their rival studio, Universal, has also achieved the feat.
This is the second time in Universal’s 105 year history that they have reached $5 billion in a year and has managed to do so thanks to monster hits like The Fate of the Furious and Despicable Me 3.
The total includes $1.605 billion domestically and $3.398 billion internationally, helping Universal join Warner Bros. and Disney at the box office milestone.
The Fate of the Furious was Universal’s biggest draw with $1.23 billion worldwide, which happens to be the 11th highest grossing figure of all time and is only the sixth film to cross $1 billion at the international box office (outside North America).
Despicable Me also pitched in greatly with $1 billion across the globe.
