Ursula K. Le Guin’s Nine Lives receiving feature film adaptation

August 19, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Ursula K. Le Guin’s acclaimed science fiction story Nine Lives is set for a feature film adaptation courtesy of producer Gavin Humphries (Pin Cushion) of the UK-based Quark Films and Josephine Rose (Slaughterhouse Rulez) of Bandit Country.

First published in Playboy in 1968, Nine Lives takes place on a moon base for off-world drilling and “follows two jaded workers whose excitement at the prospect of incoming human company is dashed when they are instead sent ten clones.”

Siri Rodnes, the BAFTA-nominated director of the short film Take Your Partner, is set to helm Nine Lives, as well as penning the script with BAFTA-nominated writer Tom Basden (Fresh Meat).

Last year, Critical Content acquired the rights to Le Guin’s 1969 sci-fi novel The Left Hand of Darkness to develop as a limited series, and the celebrated sci-fi author was attached to serve as a consulting producer on the project before her passing earlier this year aged 88.
