Despite suffering a decline in ratings, USA Network has announced that is has renewed its acclaimed hacker drama Mr. Robot for a third season, which will air in 2017.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist, and been honored as one of the best dramas on television,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network.”
Created by Sam Esmail and starring Rami Malek and Christian Slater, Mr. Robot has been a runaway success for USA, and while the the second season has struggled to live up to the first in terms of viewership, it is seen as a prestige series for the network, having won a host of awards including two Golden Globes. It is also up for six Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor (Rami Malek).
